State Women's Soccer Begins ACC Schedule Sunday

RALEIGH – The NC State women’s soccer team opens Atlantic Coast Conference play on Sunday afternoon at Wake Forest. The Wolfpack and Demon Deacons will kick off from Spry Stadium in Wiston-Salem beginning at 1 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
-Sunday’s match marks the 23rd all-time meeting between NC State and Wake Forest.

-NC State and Wake Forest last met on Oct. 31 of the 2013 season in Raleigh. The Wolfpack stunned the No. 23 Demon Deacons, winning by a final score of 2-1 on goals from Meagan Proper and Brittany Stanko.

-Wake Forest enters Sunday’s match with a 2-4-1 record.
-The Demon Deacons have played three ranked teams this season, defeating No. 13 Georgetown (2-0), drawing at No. 23 Long Beach State (1-1), and falling to No. 1 UCLA (2-1).
-Riley Ridgik leads the way offensively for the Demon Deacons with four goals, nine points, and 27 shots.
-The Demon Deacons have outscored their opponents 7-3 in the first half of matches this season.
IMMEDIATE EFFECT
Freshman forward Kayla Saager is leading the Wolfpack with four goals this season and is currently tied for first among Atlantic Coast Conference freshmen. She is part of an NC State freshman class which has had a huge impact on the team so far in 2014. Through seven matches, 14 of the team’s 36 points have come directly from first-year Wolfpackers.
ASSISTANCE PROVIDED
NC State has provided 14 assists on 11 goals scored (1.27 per goal) this season. The Wolfpack averages 1.75 assists per match so far in 2014, ranking 66th of 332 NCAA teams.
OUTSHOOTING THE OPPOSITION
Despite playing two teams which were ranked in the NSCAA top 20 at the time of kickoff, NC State has taken more shots (107) than its opponents (94) through the first eight matches of the season. The Wolfpack recorded a season high total of 24 shots at UNC Greensboro on Sept. 14 and has attempted 15 shots or more on three occasions.
