RALEIGH - The NC State men's golf team will open its 2014-15 schedule at the second annual DICK'S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup this weekend. The event will take place in Nashville, Tenn., at the Golf Club of Tennessee from Sept. 19-21 and features six teams from both the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
The tournament follows a 54-hole team and individual stroke play format. Stroke play in the first three rounds will determine individual and team winners. On Sunday, the teams will compete in match play to determine which conference is crowned champion. In the 2013 installment of the event, the SEC edged the ACC to claim the inaugural title.
Also representing the ACC along with NC State will be No. 34 Clemson, No. 32 Duke, No. 20 Georgia Tech, Louisville, and Virginia. The SEC will be represented by No. 7 Georgia, Missouri, No. 18 Ole Miss, No. 21 South Carolina, Texas A&M, and No. 8 Vanderbilt. (All rankings according to GOLFWEEK's Sept. 15 release.)
The event will be covered extensively by GOLFWEEK and will also be featured in a one-hour televised special on ESPNU at 2 p.m. ET on Oct. 12.
