A native of Frisco, Texas, Kearney was named the MVP of the tournament after averaging 3.27 kills per set. For the weekend, she had 36 kills on just 72 attempts to compile an attacking percentage of .403.
Against Harvard last Friday, she posted a match-high 12 kills on 20 attempts with only two errors to register a .500 attacking percentage. Kearney followed that performance with nine kills in the match versus UNC Asheville.
Kearney had her most impressive performance of the weekend against the host Georgia Bulldogs. The freshman smacked a career-best 15 kills in the contest on 34 swings with just one error to record a .412 hitting percentage.
“She does a nice job of taking care of the ball and doesn’t make many errors,” said head coach Bryan Bunn. “Kaitlyn sees the block well and does a good job of hitting around it. She was named the MVP of the tournament and she deserved it.”
She also chipped in with eight blocks over the weekend, including a solo block versus UNC Asheville.
NC State is off to an 8-1 start to the season and will return to action at home this weekend for the Courtyard Midtown Invitational. The Wolfpack will face Coastal Carolina in its first match of the weekend on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
