State Volleyball Cruises Past UNC Asheville, 3-0

ATHENS, Ga. – The NC State women’s volleyball team collected its second sweep of the 2014 season with a dominating 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-17) shutout against UNC Asheville Saturday morning inside the Ramsey Center.
With the win, the Wolfpack moves to 7-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-7.
Worth Noting
- NC State extended its winning streak to seven with the win over UNC Asheville.
- The Wolfpack recorded a hitting percentage of .286, while limiting the Bulldogs to a .062 clip. In the first set, State hit .360 and followed that with an attacking percentage of .333 in the second frame.
- In the second set, State led the entire frame after scoring the first point of the set. The score was tied four different times, but the Pack never relinquished the lead.
- A 9-0 run by the Wolfpack put the squad ahead 21-9 before going on to win the set 25-11.
- UNC Asheville kept the third set close until a 5-0 run by NC State gave the team a 23-15 advantage.
Key Performers
- The Wolfpack used a balanced offensive attack in the win, as five different players tallied at least five kills.
- Freshman Julia Brown had her best match of her young career, putting down nine kills in the contest and recording a .316 hitting percentage. Classmate Kaitlyn Kearney also had nine kills in the match, as did senior Rachel Buckley.
- Morgan Cormier, a redshirt sophomore from Carlsbad, Calif., chipped in with seven kills and freshman Perry Ramsey contributed five.
- Junior setter Tanna Aljoe made her first start of the season and handed out 39 assists to go along with four digs.
- For the sixth time this season, senior libero Alston Kearns recorded double-digit digs in a match. She paced the squad with 16 in the competition, while freshman defensive specialist Emily Harris had seven.
