RICHMOND, Va. – While some of her teammates have been competing in various international competitions this summer, Alyson Brown of the NC State women’s soccer team was busy winning a national championship. Playing for the Richmond United U23 women’s team, the sophomore defender and her teammates claimed the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) national title earlier this month.
In the final match of the competition, Richmond defeated McLean by a 4-2 mark via penalties following a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime.
Brown’s teammates this summer included student athletes from Atlantic Coast Conference rivals Virginia Tech and Miami.
About Richmond United
Richmond United is a new organization established by the Richmond Strikers and Richmond Kickers when the two clubs united their respective U.S. Soccer Development Academy programs. The model was replicated to accommodate a national level girls program that will participate in the ECNL.
Brown and NC State open the 2014 season with a home exhibition against Appalachian State on Aug. 13. The Wolfpack will then host UNC-Wilmington on Aug. 22 for its first official match of the season.
