SAN CRISTÓBAL, Dominican Republic – Alexa Allen of the NC State women’s soccer team had a very successful trip to the Caribbean this past weekend. The sophomore striker, representing the Jamaican Women’s National Team in a qualification tournament for the 2014 Women’s Caribbean Cup, scored three goals en route to helping the Reggae Girlz move one step closer to qualifying for the 2015 FIFA World Cup in Canada.
Needing to win Group Five in order to advance to the Women’s Caribbean Cup (played in Trinidad and Tobago), Allen and Jamaica dominated the competition. On June 20, Allen and Jamaica defeated Saint Lucia by a very lopsided 14-0 scoreline. Coming on as a substitute, the native of Buford, Ga., scored a hat trick, finding the back of the net in the 69th, 77th, and 88th minutes of the match.
In the final match of the weekend, Allen met up with Wolfpack teammate Gladys Loyas, who was representing the Dominican Republic. Jamaica would end up winning the match by a final score of 7-0.

By earning the top spot in Group Five, Jamaica has advanced to the Women’s Caribbean Cup. In this tournament, eight nations will vie for three spots in the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship, which is the final round of qualifying for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
NC State opens the 2014 season with a home exhibition against Appalachian State on Aug. 13. The Wolfpack will then host UNC-Wilmington on Aug. 22 for its first official match of the season.
