Pardue Honored for Service as Faculty Athletics Representative

Raleigh, N.C. - Dr. Sam Pardue was honored for his five years of service as NC State's Faculty Athletics Representative at a reception today at Vaughn Towers. Pardue, who has held that position since 2009, was recently named associate dean and director of academic programs for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
"On behalf of our coaches and staff, I want to express our great appreciation to Dr. Sam Pardue for his years of service on the athletics council and as faculty athletics representative," said Director of Athletics Deborah A. Yow. "His insight and counsel has been invaluable to our department and we wish him the best in his role as associate dean and director of academic programs for CALS."
As Faculty Athletics Representative, Pardue chaired the Council on Athletics, which assists the chancellor in the exercise of "institutional responsibility and control of intercollegiate athletics" as required by the university, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the National Collegiate Athletics Association. Prior to being named F.A.R., Pardue had served on the Council on Athletics for nine years.
A former head of the Prestage Department of Poultry Science, Purdue had been serving as the interim director of academic programs in CALS since July 1, 2012. He served as head of the Prestage Poultry Science Department beginning July 2005.
A native of Yadkin County, Pardue received his bachelor's degree in poultry science in 1977 and a Ph.D. in physiology in 1983, both from NC State. Prior to returning to NC State as a faculty member, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and an assistant professor at Texas A&M University. He has received numerous honors and awards. He is a member of the N.C. State University Academy of Outstanding Teachers and has also been recognized nationally as the recipient of the Purina Mills Award for Outstanding Teaching and the Poultry Science Association's Student Recruitment Award. He also received a Graduate Student Certificate for Outstanding Teaching and was named Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor at N.C. State. In addition, he received the CALS Kriz Study Leave Award.
