Watkins Posts a 9.9 in Tri-Meet at Denver

DENVER, Colo. – Sophomore Brittni Watkins of the NC State gymnastics team posted a 9.900 on the floor exercise for the second consecutive meet, as the Wolfpack finished with a team score of 194.300 in its tri-meet at Denver on Saturday.
State would finish third overall in the final team standings. Denver won the meet with a total of 196.050, while Southern Utah finished second with a 195.700.
The Pack started the evening on the balance beam, where Brittni Watkins posted a score of 9.825 to finish second overall. The sophomore has now posted a score of 9.800 or better on beam in six of seven meets this season. Hannah Fallanca and Lane Jarred each scored a 9.725, as the squad finished with a team score of 48.150 on the apparatus.
State next moved to the floor exercise, where Watkins scored a 9.900 for the second straight competition to finish in first place on the podium. Jarred tied her career-best score with a 9.850 to tie for third, while senior Kristen Harabedian scored a 9.800 on her routine. Stephanie Ouellette posted a score 9.775, while Fallanca’s routine scored a 9.700. As a team, the Wolfpack finished with a score of 48.925.
At the midway point of the meet, the Wolfpack was in third place with a score of 97.075.
The Pack posted its second highest score of the season on vault with a 49.150. Watkins and Diahanna Ham led the squad with a score of 9.850 to finish in a tie for third place. Freshman Amanda Fillard made her collegiate debut in the event, where she posted a score of 9.825. Ouellette also finished with a score of 9.825, while Fallanca posted a score of 9.800.
State would conclude the evening on the uneven parallel bars, where Ouellette would lead the squad with a score of 9.825. Watkins would post a score of 9.775, while sophomore Michaela Woodford finished with a score of 9.750. As a group, State would finish with a score of 48.075.
In the all-around competition, Watkins would finish third overall with a score of 39.350, while Ouellette completed the all-around competition with a score of 38.550.
Up next, the Pack will return to the friendly confines of Reynolds Coliseum to host George Washington, North Carolina and William & Mary in the annual Sweetheart Invitational at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15.
