Softball Hosts Home Opener on Tuesday

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team will play its first home game of the 2014 season on Tuesday, Feb. 25 against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. First pitch of the contest is slated for 4 p.m. at Dail Stadium.
Tuesday’s contest will be the first meeting between the two programs.
The Wolfpack (4-6) is coming off a strong performance in the Citrus Classic over the weekend, as the squad collected three wins, including two shutouts.
The Pack defeated the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, which were preseason picked to finish first in the Patriot League, 4-3 on Friday, before defeating IPFW, 5-0, and Albany, 2-0 on Sunday. Both IPFW (The Summit League) and Albany (America East) were preseason picked to finish atop of their respective conferences.
Junior Renada Davis led NC State at the plate in the tournament with six hits in 15 at-bats, including a home run against IPFW. Classmate Emily Weiman was stellar in the circle, tossing three complete games, highlighted by two shutout wins.
SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies enter Tuesday’s contest with a 1-8 record on the season, after defeating Cleveland State in their most recent outing on Sunday, Feb. 23.
Senior outfielder Ashley Snider leads the squad at the plate and was chosen as a preseason All-Atlantic 10 Conference honoree. Freshman Kristen Hickling is the team’s top pitcher and collected the win in the circle against Cleveland State by tossing a complete game.
