Gwiazdowski Wins Title at Cliff Keen Invite; Pack Finish 9th

LAS VEGAS, NEV. - Defending NCAA Champion Nick Gwiazdowski brought home the 285-pound title at the 2014 Cliff Keen Invitational held this weekend in Las Vegas, Nev. Gwiazdowski rolled to a 5-0 record, including a pair of wins over top-15 foes. In the finals, Gwiazdowski downed ninth-ranked Ty Walz of Virginia Tech 6-3 on two takedowns and 3:20 of riding time.
Two other Pack wrestlers placed in the prestigious tournament. Sophomore Max Rohskopf finished seventh at 165 pounds and classmate Pete Renda was eighth at 174 pounds. Overall five Pack wrestlers made it to the second day, junior Sam Speno (141) and freshman Michael Boykin (197).
The 20th-ranked Wolfpack placed ninth in a 39 team field that included 11 teams ranked in the top-25 in this week’s USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll, including five top-10 schools. The Pack also only wrestled in nine weight classes, not having an entry at 133 pounds.
