Freshman Focus on Emily Harris

What age did you start playing volleyball?
"I started playing volleyball when I was 10."
What other sports did you play growing up?
"I played soccer for a little while, but mainly indoor volleyball and beach volleyball."
When did you first learn of NC State?
"I've known Tanna Aljoe for a while, so when I found out that she was coming here, I started to look into the school and the program so I started to like it more."
What made you commit to N.C. State?
"I wanted to go to NC State due to its engineering program, I knew I wanted that to be my major and the volleyball team was appealing to me as well. I really like the coaching style of all of the coaches. Right now I'm undecided on what I want to specifically major in, but I'm leaning towards Textile Engineering."
What would your dream job be?
"Really looking forward to working with a company who specifically makes textiles. I really want to work for companies such as The North Face and Patagonia or even other companies within that industry."
What's your favorite food?
"Sushi."
What is your favorite movie?
"Anchorman, that movie makes me laugh."
What is your favorite book?
"The Outliers, it's a really cool book."
Who is your favorite pro athlete?
"Probably Troy Polamalu, he has to be my favorite and his jersey was the first football jersey that I've ever gotten."
What's your dream car?
"A Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV (G-Wagon)."
What's your biggest fear?
"I'm really scared of heights."
What's your favorite volleyball memory?
"Besides coming here to play, I got to play in a club national championship when I was 16, so that whole moment was exciting."
If you could change one volleyball rule what would it be?
"I would allow as many contacts as possible, anything to get the ball over the net."
What is something you couldn't imagine going a week without?
"I would say my phone."
What actress would play you in a movie?
"Kristen Wiig."
What is something people don't know about you?
"I used to be an outside hitter when I was younger before all my teammates started getting taller and I stayed the same height."
What is one thing you wish was different about you?
"I wish I was taller. I feel really short, especially when I'm at practice."
What's your favorite part of practice?
"I like whenever we start doing more competitive things, that's when we really get down to business like scrimmaging."
What's your least favorite part of practice?
"Probably when we do a lot of pressure oriented things."
What's your favorite accessory in your wardrobe?
"Watches, I have a lot of watches in my wardrobe."
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
"Definitely cookie dough, I love chocolate chip cookie dough."
