Coaching Staff’s Thoughts
On vault
“I was very pleased with vaulting, everyone was successful and they all looked great. Michaela (Woodford) finished her routine but it wasn’t as good as it normally is because she slipped on her hand a little bit, but it was early year jitters because she never does that in practice. I was really happy with Sami (Circeo) and her effort today. Her vault was really pretty and it was so big she took three steps out of it. The quality of her vault and the improvement she has shown since she started in August shows that she will have a very positive impact for us in the future.”- Mark Stevenson, Head Coach
On floor exercise
“Everyone that did floor today did a phenomenal job. They did everything we asked them to do and the way we asked them to do. We have two kids out of floor right now, Courtney (Leighton) and Brittni (Watkins). Brit’s our best gymnast on floor, she was an All-American and a conference champion on floor last year with Lane, but she will be back to 100 percent soon.”- Mark Stevenson, Head Coach
On balance beam
“On beam today the girls made some mental mistakes that are very minor and are ones that they normally don’t make in practice. Those types of things are a prime example of why we go through this process so that they can be reminded of what they need to think about when they compete. Everyone did well but Michaela and Aubrey (Hine) were two girls that stood out to me today, both of them did wonderful beam routines. We saw signs of light but I think that in general moving forward we just have to focus on not letting our mind wander when we’re doing our routines.”- Colleen Johnson, Associate Head Coach
On uneven bars
“As a coach that works on bars everyday with the girls, I see a lot of progress since we started in August. We’re making strides to get ready for the season; each individual is putting in the time and effort to get themselves to the next stage and today they proved how excited they are for the season to come and get back into competition.”- Bob Starkell, Assistant Coach
The Pack will open the season on Jan. 9 when it hosts Denver inside Reynolds Coliseum at 7 p.m.
