Wrestling Downs Gardner-Webb, Comes Within Point of #7 Nebraska

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State started off its dual season with excitement Saturday in Reynolds. After easily defeating Gardner-Webb 26-8, the Pack pushed #7 Nebraska to the limit in a 16-15 defeat. The Pack won five of the 10 matches, but the Huskers scored the lone bonus point win of the dual.
• NC State started its day with a 26-8 over Gardner-Webb. After wins at 125, 133 and 141, NC State jumped out to a 10-0 lead only to see the Bulldogs real off three straight to close to within 10-8. The Pack then put the hammer down with four straight wins, a technical fall and major decision among them, to close out the victory in its first dual of the season.
• In one of the most exciting duals in recent history, the Pack pushed #7 Nebraska to the limit in the night cap, narrowly falling 16-15. Both squads won five bouts on the day, but a Nebraska major decision at 157 was the lone bonus point win of the dual. The Pack was down 16-9 going into the final two bouts. After a win at 197, the Pack was looking for a bonus point win at 285 to close, but Nebraska fought off Nick Gwiazdowski's effort and succumbed just 8-2 leaving the Pack a point short in the overall team score.

The Pack has a quick turnaround, hosting the NC State Duals tomorrow in Reynolds Coliseum. NC State will face Lindsey Wilson at 11 a.m., American at 12:30 p.m., and UNC Pembroke at 2 p.m. Admission is once again free for all three matches.
