AKRON, Ohio - After a record-setting performance last weekend, the 13th-ranked NC State rifle team struggled on Saturday against No. 14 Akron and lost the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) battle, 4602-4572, at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range.
The Wolfpack falls to 19-6 and 0-5 in GARC action, while Akron improves 2-2 and 2-1 in conference.
Miller's Minute
Opening statement...
"We were just not sharp as a team today," said head coach Keith Miller. "Doing well against Akron was one of our main GARC goals this season, so it's disappointing to lose. Akron struggled a bit, but not to the degree we did, as we fired our lowest score since our first match."
On repeating last weekend's performance...
"We knew that we might not shoot as well as last week's record-setting day, but to drop this much is frustrating. It was a new range for us as we had never shot at Akron before, but that wasn't the cause."
On facing West Virginia tomorrow...
"We're looking forward to getting back in action tomorrow at West Virginia. They are a really strong team, but we generally shoot well at their range and our team like to go there, so we're hoping to put up a good score there to end the semester on a strong note."
