Volleyball Falls on the Road at Pitt

PITTSBURGH – The NC State women’s volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-17) loss against the Pittsburgh Panthers Friday night inside Fitzgerald Field House.
The Wolfpack falls to 14-13 on the season and 3-12 in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, while the Panthers improve to 22-6 overall and 10-5 in conference action.
Match Rewind
- NC State struggled on the offensive side of the net, recording a .135 hitting percentage while Pitt tallied a .275 clip.
- The Pack raced out to an 8-3 lead early in the first set, but the Panthers responded with a 7-3 run to knot the score at 10. After trailing 22-19, State scored consecutive points to cut the deficit to one but Pitt held on for the 25-22 first set win.
- In the second set, Pitt jumped out to a 9-5 advantage, forcing NC State to call a timeout. The Panthers continued to hold the lead as the Wolfpack struggled to find an offensive rhthym and dropped the frame, 25-13.
- State got off to a slow start in the third set and wasn’t able to recover, as Pittsburgh scored the first five points in the set. The Wolfpack put together a 5-0 run later in the frame, but the Pitt advantage was too much to overcome and the Panthers won the set, 25-17.
Key Performers
- Freshman Kaitlyn Kearney led all players in the contest with 11 kills and a career-best .625 attacking percentage.
- At the setter position, sophomore Maggie Speaks handed out a match-high 25 assists to go along with four kills and two service aces.
- Sophomore Rachel Eppley paced the squad defensively with 15 digs and senior Alston Kearns added nine.

NC State will conclude a four-match road swing on Sunday when the squad travels to Notre Dame to take on the Fighting Irish at 1 p.m. inside Purcell Pavilion.
