A pair of Pack wrestlers have each won both tournaments they have wrestled in thus far, senior Tommy Gantt and freshman Kevin Jack.
Gantt, who is redshirting this year after being an NCAA Qualifier and All-ACC last season, won the 165 pound title at The Citadel Open and then captured the 157 title at this past weekend’s Hokie Open. Gantt has won all nine matches he has competed in thus far.
Jack brought home top honors at 149 pounds at The Citadel Open and then followed that up winning the 141-crown wrestling in the Freshman/Sophomore portion of the Hokie Open. Six of Jack’s nine wins thus far have been bonus point victories.
Another pair of Pack freshman have also captured titles. Jamel Morris earned medalist honors at 133 pounds at this past weekend’s Pembroke Classic, while classmate Malik McDonald was first at 184 pounds also at the Pembroke Classic.
Other top finishes had Morris’ twin brother, Jamal Morris, placing second at 141 pounds at the Pembroke Classic and fellow freshman Troy Seymour was also second at the Pembroke Classic at 165 pounds. Redshirt sophomore Mike Kosoy took third at 285 pounds at the Hokie Open, while freshman Chandler Pyke was fourth at 149 pounds at The Citadel Open.
The Wolfpack will be in home action this weekend, hosting the annual Wolfpack Open on Sunday. This year’s event will be held in Carmichael Gymnasium, and admission is $15.
