NC State (4-4-2, 1-2-1 ACC) claimed a 2-1 win over No. 5 Louisville (5-3-1, 3-1) on Friday night at Dail Soccer Stadium in the Wolfpack's Pink Match presented by Rex Healthcare.

MOMENTS OF THE MATCH

- Travis Wannemuehler put State ahead 1-0 in the 52nd minute on a 60-yard long ball from Holden Fender that bounced over the Cardinal keeper. Wannemuehler finished on the empty net to break the scoreless tie.

 
- In the 62nd minute, Alex McCauley had to answer the bell, swatting away a Louisville penalty kick to preserve the 1-0 lead.

- Reed Norton scored the first goal of his Wolfpack career in the 76th minute to make it 2-0, on assists from Wannemuehler and Fender. Fender centered to Wannemuehler, who crossed into the box, allowing Norton to head it home.

- Louisville trimmed the lead in half in the 83rd minute, but NC State withstood one last flurry to seal the win.

"Getting a little bit of confidence and belief is the number one thing for us," said NC State head coach Kelly Findley. "The work rate, the attitude, and the commitment were fantastic. If you have that, your quality's just going to grow. When the guys believe in themselves, we can do anything."

The Wolfpack weathered a storm through the first half after missing a chance at the Cardinals' empty net early. Louisville poured on nine shots to the Pack's two, and earned eight corners to State's one in the first half alone. McCauley rose to the challenge, denying a career-high 12 chances over the course of the match.
