Rifle Defeats VMI, Falls Short Against No. 13 Army

LEXINGTON, Va. – The NC State rifle team fired an aggregate score of 4587 on Saturday to defeat the host VMI Keydets, but was outdone by No. 13 Army at VMI’s Markmanship Center. The Black Knights recorded a team total of 4618 and VMI shot a team score of 4477.
State moves to 7-2 on the season, while Army runs its record to 2-2 and VMI falls to 3-5.
Worth Noting
- NC State’s team score of 4587 matches its second highest of the 2014-15 season.
- The Wolfpack fired a season-high score of 2334 in the air rifle discipline, but struggled in smallbore with a total of 2253.
Air Rifle Notes
- Juniors Dani Foster and Daniel Cliff highlighted the Pack’s performance in the air rifle event with scores of 588 and 587, respectively. Foster claimed second, while Cliff was third.
- Lucas Kozeniesky, a sophomore from Fairfax, Va., tallied the next-best score for State with a 586 to finish fourth.
- Rounding out the counting shooters for the Wolfpack in the event were junior Alex Martin and freshman Derya Pekari. Martin charted a 573 and Pekari fired a 564.
- Other competitors in the air rifle competition for the Wolfpack were redshirt junior Lee Price with a score of 569, freshman Caitlyn Ford with a 564 and redshirt sophomore George Williams who scored a 555.
Smallbore Notes
- Kozeniesky paced the Wolfpack in the smallbore discipline with a score of 576, which tied for the second-best score of the day in the event.
- Finishing closely behind was Foster with a 572 clip to take fourth place.
- Martin fired a score of 553, while Pekari and Cliff tallied scores of 552 and 551, respectively.
- Price recorded a score of 550, in addition to Ford’s score of 543 and Williams’ tally of 511.
