Volleyball Drops Hard-Fought Match at Virginia, 3-2

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The NC State women's volleyball team suffered a hard-fought 3-2 (25-20, 24-26, 23-25, 25-12, 15-11) loss against the Virginia Cavaliers Friday night in Memorial Gym. The Wolfpack lost the first set, but responded to win the next two before dropping the final two sets.
State falls to 12-8 and 1-7 in ACC play, while Virginia improves to 12-9 and 5-3 in conference action.
Match Rewind
- Virginia limited NC State to a .121 team hitting percentage, while countering with a .215 attacking percentage.
- After dropping the first set, the Wolfpack raced out to a 5-0 lead in the second set behind some strong serving from freshman Emily Harris. State stretched its advantage to 7-1 forcing UVa to call a timeout.
- NC State never trailed in the second set, but the Cavs' tied the score at 24 prior to consecutive points from the Pack to win the set, 26-24.
- A 6-0 run by the Wolfpack in the third set helped the squad take the lead, 15-11, and State held the advantage for the remainder of the frame to win it, 25-23.
- With the score tied at six in the fifth set, Virginia went on a 4-1 run to take a 10-7 lead in the frame. NC State countered with a timeout and scored two unanswered points following the break in action, but the Cavaliers ended the set on a 4-2 run to take it 15-11.
Key Performers
- Freshman Kaitlyn Kearney led the Wolfpack offensively with 17 kills and 10 blocks to record her second double-double performance of the season. Classmate Perry Ramsey pitched in with 10 kills, while senior Alesha Wilson had seven.
- At the setter position, junior Tanna Aljoe handed out 41 assists, to go along with eight digs and two kills.
- Defensively, sophomore Rachel Eppley paced the squad with a career-best 20 digs in the contest. Harris, a freshman defensive specialist, also chipped in with nine.

The Wolfpack will return home to Reynolds Coliseum on Sunday to host the Boston College Eagles in the Kay Yow Pink Match. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
