RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women’s volleyball team will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to take on the Virginia Cavaliers on Friday before returning home to host the Boston College Eagles on Sunday inside Reynolds Coliseum. Friday’s contest is slated for 7 p.m., while Sunday’s match will begin at 2 p.m.
The Wolfpack enters the weekend with a 12-7 overall record and a 1-6 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play. Virginia is 11-9 on the season and 4-3 in ACC action, while Boston College heads to Raleigh with an 8-10 record, including a 3-4 mark in conference.
Last Time Out
NC State suffered a hard-fought 3-2 loss against the Louisville Cardinals in the last outing for the Wolfpack. Despite having more kills, assists and digs than the Cards’ the Pack came up just short on the scoreboard.
Leading the Pack
Freshman middle blocker Kaitlyn Kearney has been the Wolfpack’s top offensive weapon this season, leading the squad with 2.79 kills per set. Dariyan Hopper, a senior outside hitter from Shorewood, Ill., is second on the team with 2.41 kills per set.
At the setter position, junior Tanna Aljoe and sophomore Maggie Speaks have split time with the prior handing out 11.04 assists per set and the latter 9.04 aps. Defensively, senior Alston Kearns paces the group with 3.38 digs per set, while sophomore Rachel Eppley is second with 2.33 dps.
Scouting Virginia
The Virginia Cavaliers have compiled a 6-1 record on their home court this season, with the only loss against No. 21 Duke. Last weekend the squad dropped its only match of the weekend in Durham, N.C., against the Blue Devils, 3-0.
Last season, NC State won both matches against Virginia, collecting a 3-0 sweep in Charlottesville and earning a 3-2 win at home. Head coach Bryan Bunn has compiled a 5-2 record against the Cavs’ during his tenure with the Wolfpack.
Senior Tori Janowski and junior Kayla Sears lead Virginia’s offensive attack, each with 3.05 kills per set. Junior Lauren Fuller is the team’s setter and has dished out 10.68 assists per set, while sophomore Lexi Riccolo paces the squad defensively with 2.86 digs per set.
Scouting Boston College
Boston College currently owns an 8-10 record on the season and a 2-5 record in away matches this season. The Eagles will face North Carolina on Friday prior to their matchup with the Wolfpack on Sunday.
The Eagles split a pair of matches last weekend, collecting a 3-1 home win against Wake Forest and dropping a 3-2 decision on the road at Notre Dame. Last season, NC State and Boston College met once with the Wolfpack winning a 3-0 decision in Chesnut Hill, Mass.
Junior Katty Workman leads the team offensively with 3.69 kills per set. Senior setter Kellie Barnum has dished out 9.11 assist per set. Defensively, senior libero Courtney Castle paces the Eagles with 3.87 digs per set.
