Wolfpack Travels to No. 4 Cavaliers Sunday Afternoon

RALEIGH – The NC State women’s soccer team continues its three-match road trip on Sunday afternoon, traveling to take on No. 4 Virginia. Kickoff between the Wolfpack and Cavaliers is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Klöckner Field.
SERIES HISTORY
-Sunday’s match marks the 39th all-time meeting between NC State and Virginia.
-The Cavaliers hold a 23-13-2 edge in the series.
-NC State last defeated Virginia during the 2009 season.
-The then-No. 1 Cavaliers earned a 5-0 win in Raleigh on Oct. 17 of the 2013 season.
SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
-Virginia enters Sunday’s contest the owner of a 12-1-0 record which includes a 4-1-0 mark in ACC play.
-The Cavaliers are currently ranked No. 4 in the nation according to the latest NSCAA poll.
-Virginia has scored 44 goals this season while allowing just nine.
-The Cavaliers’ only loss came against then-No. 5 Florida State (1-0) on Sept. 28.
-Thirteen different student athletes have scored this season for Virginia. Makenzy Doniak leads the team with eight goals.
FOUR OF A KIND
Four Wolfpackers have been very consistent fixtures on the team this season, playing at least 1,058 minutes. Alyson Brown (1,193 minutes) leads the way while Dayna Tomayko (1,186), Jenna Kalwa (1,072), and Caroline Gentry (1,058) are not far behind. Each of these student athletes is averaging at least 81.3 minutes played per match.
THREE STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD
NC State’s trip to No. 4 Virginia marks the second of three straight road matches. The Wolfpack will end this road swing on Oct. 19 at Boston College.
INJURY BUG
The Wolfpack has not played a single match this season with its entire first-choice starting eleven. At one point or another this season, injuries have limited the time of Kayla Saager, Mackenzie Graybill, Alexa Allen, Jackie Stengel, Gladys Loyas, Cailyn Boch, Jessica Baity, Mackenzie Stelljes, and Michelle Oestreich.
STRONG SECOND HALVES
Nine of NC State’s 12 goals (75 percent) this season have come in the second half. The Wolfpack has also recorded 91 of its 150 shots (60.6 percent) in the final 45 minutes of regulation.
