A little less than two months ago, I started my sophomore year! Even though I am only a sophomore, I can confidently say I’ve learned a lot within the past year. During the first months of my freshman year, I remember I was constantly confused and uncomfortable while getting adjusted to living on my own. Maneuvering around campus, finding my classes, and simply meeting new people definitely took time to get used to. As a sophomore, I know how to effectively manage my time throughout the day, what to expect at practice, and how to properly take care of myself.
My advice for the freshmen on the gymnastics team is to keep pushing through the hardest times, both in school and gymnastics since classes will only become more challenging and practices will get tougher as our season approaches. I’ve realized it’s very easy to fall behind in college, especially when your parents aren’t there telling you to stay focused. However, there is no better feeling than receiving an A on a test you studied hard for or perfecting a routine you’ve been consistently working on.
Last year, I started my season coming back from an injury and felt like I spent most of it playing catch-up. This year, I was determined to start out ahead and I can already tell that I’m more physically and mentally prepared as I go through my second preseason as a Wolfpack gymnast. Though I’ve noticed that my body isn’t as sore as it was last year during this time, freshman season definitely taught me the importance of staying ahead when it comes to being in shape so I am continuously working on improving my strength, endurance and overall physical fitness.
Already, I’ve been learning new skills and perfecting my gymnastics performance. I feel that I’ve begun this year a step ahead. It’s encouraging to know how much I’ve improved over the course of just one year. It’s been about five months since my last competition as a freshman and I’m eagerly waiting for season to start up again.
Every year, it seems like a brand new team after losing seniors and gaining freshmen, but everyone has been adjusting really well and the freshmen have already shown a lot of dedication and commitment. I know January is not far off and I’m so grateful for the chance to represent the Wolfpack again as a sophomore. I can’t wait to see what the season will have in store for me and my team! Go Pack!
