RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men's basketball team dropped a 76-45 decision to the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday at PNC Arena. Desmond Lee and Ralston Turner each scored 10 points on the afternoon for the Wolfpack.
"Virginia played terrific basketball," NC State head coach Mark Gottfried said. "In the first half, I'm not sure if they could have played any better and I'm not sure if we could have played any worse. It was a perfect storm. In the first half, they clicked on every cylinder and we played very poorly. It was a tough day."
Virginia opened the game on a 17-4 run en route to a 48-25 halftime lead. Following intermission, State was not able to cut into the UVA advantage as the ACC's second-best scoring defense held the Wolfpack nearly 30 points below its season average of 74.5.
Joe Harris and Mike Tobey each scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Cavaliers (12-5, 3-0 ACC).
For its next game, NC State (11-5, 1-2 ACC) will play at Wake Forest on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Tip-off at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum is scheduled for 9 p.m.
