RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State senior Joelle Kissell will travel to Pacific Palisades, Calif. this weekend to participate in the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. The tournament, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious tournaments in collegiate tennis, features a majority of the nation's top NCAA Division I women's tennis players.
Kissell, who is ranked No. 45 in the nation, will be making her third straight appearance in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. Last year she defeated No. 17 Cristina Stancu of Texas A&M, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, in the main draw’s singles consolation bracket.
Last weekend in the season-opening Bulldog Classic in Athens, Ga. she posted a 2-2 singles record and 2-0 doubles record, the most victories by a State player in the tournament. The Hostetter, Pa., native holds an all-time career record of 74-37 at NC State and in 2011, became the second player in program history to reach the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship.
Play begins on Saturday morning with pre-qualifying singles and doubles matches. Main draw action is slated for Thursday, Oct. 3-Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Riviera Tennis Club. Singles semifinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 7-10 in Flushing, NY.
