Women's Golf Opens Play At LSU Tiger Classic

RALEIGH - The 20th-ranked NC State women's golf team opens play Friday at the LSU Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La. The three-day event will be contested at the par 72, 6,305-yard University Club.
NC State has finished no lower than sixth in its previous three spring events this season, including winning the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge to close out February. In its last outing, the Juli Inkster Spartan Challenge (March 4-5) in San Jose, Calif., the Pack finished tied for third with a 33-over 897. State's top individual finisher was Brittany Marchand with a three-round total of 5-over 221, before a final-round 2-over 74 to tie for fifth.
In addition to the Wolfpack, the 14-team field features eight squads ranked in the latest Golfstat top 50, including No. 8 Arkansas, No 18 Georgia, No. 25 Tulane, No. 29 Tennessee, No. 30 LSU, No. 36 Kentucky and No. 48 Ole Miss.
At last year's tournament, NC State fired a final-round and tournament-best 293 as a team to finish fifth. Sophomore Augusta James tied for fifth in last year's event with a 4-over 220 and carded her lowest round of the event, a 70, on the final day. Marchand and Ana Menendez tied for 27th with 14-over 230s over 54 holes.
The Pack will start Friday's play on the first hole with the first tee time at 9 a.m. (CST)
