NC State men's soccer did not receive an at-large bid to the 2013 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament, according to Monday's selection show.
With the dust settled from last weekend's conference tournaments, the Wolfpack (8-5-4, 3-5-3 ACC) owned the No. 39 RPI in the nation. Surprises in those tournaments likely influenced the Pack's fate, with a number of unexpected teams punching their tickets via automatic bids.
That meant when it came time to draw up the 48-team tournament field, there simply weren't enough spots left for State, despite wins over RPI Top 20s North Carolina and William & Mary, and ties against RPI Top 15s Virginia and Wake Forest.
"It's disappointing for our seniors," said NC State head coach Kelly Findley. "They led us well, helped us finish strong, and pushed us forward this year as a program. The experience of being this close will help us as we head into next season."
