RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women’s volleyball team will have its first true ACC road trip of the season this weekend, when it travels north to face Boston College on Friday, Oct. 4 and Syracuse on Sunday, Oct. 6. Friday’s match is slated to begin at 7 p.m., while first serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. against the Orange on ESPN3.
The Wolfpack (10-4, 1-1 ACC) is coming off a strong performance in its last match against Notre Dame, defeating the Fighting Irish, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in Reynolds Coliseum. As a team, the Pack recorded an attacking percentage of .377 – a season-high for the squad. It also had a season-best 58 kills in the match, contrasted with just 12 attacking errors – its lowest total of the year.
Junior Dariyan Hopper led the Wolfpack offense with 17 kills and a career-high .640 hitting percentage. The offense seemed to be firing on all cylinders as four different players tallied double-digit kills.
NC State will look to carry the momentum from that match into this weekend’s contests, as the Pack will travel out of state for the first time in conference play.
Head coach Bryan Bunn is undefeated against the BC Eagles in his tenure at State, posting a perfect 5-0 mark. None of Bunn’s squads have faced the Syracuse Orange, but NC State leads the all-time series 4-1.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
The Boston College Eagles enter Friday’s match with an 8-6 record on the season and an 0-2 mark in conference play. The Eagles dropped a pair of league contests over the weekend to Miami, 3-2, and to Florida State, 3-0.
Sophomore outside hitter Katty Workman leads the squad with 217 kills on the year, followed by senior middle hitter Melissa McTighe with 115. Junior Kellie Barnum serves as the team’s setter and has tallied 483 assists this season. The team’s libero, freshman Madison Lydon, leads the group with 197 digs.
Last season, NC State collected a 3-0 sweep against Boston College in Reynolds Coliseum.
SCOUTING SYRACUSE
The Syracuse Orange have compiled a 5-9 record to this point in the season and an 0-2 mark in ACC action. Over the weekend, the squad lost a pair of conference matches against Florida State and Miami, both by a final score of 3-1.
The Orange use a balanced offensive attack as two players are tied for the team-lead in kills. Junior Nicolette Serratore has tallied 150, while sophomore Silvi Uattara has achieved the same total. Freshman Erica Handley is the sqaud’s setter and has dished out 426 assists. Serratore also leads the defense with 139 digs on the season.
Sunday’s contest will be the first meeting between the two schools as league opponents. NC State owns the series record by a 4-1 tally, with the last meeting in 1998.
