RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State will host the first of two back-to-back volleyball tournaments at Reynolds Coliseum, beginning on Friday when Virginia Commonwealth faces Kent State at 4 p.m. and the Pack plays South Florida in its first home match of the season at 7 p.m. on the first day of the NC State Courtyard Midtown Classic.
Admission is free for all matches. All three of NC State's matches will be live streamed on GoPack.com.
“It’s good to be home,” third-year head coach Bryan Bunn said. “We are very fortunate to have a long stretch of home games here in September. We are looking to grow during this time.
“We did some really good things during our first tournament, but there is still plenty to work on during this first month of the season.”

The Wolfpack (3-0) is coming off a succesful start to the season, sweeping three matches during the Comfort Inn & Suites Invitational in Charleston, S.C., last weekend.
Senior setter Megan Cyr claimed the Most Valuable Player award in the two-day tournament after recording 121 assists, eight kills, 17 digs and 12 total blocks. Teammates Dariyan Hopper and Alexa Micek joined Cyr on the All-Tournament team.
Last year, the Wolfpack also hosted two tournaments, sweeping all six matches in the Courtyard Midtown Classic and the Courtyard Midtown Invitational. The Pack also won all three matches in the 2010 Hilton RTP Tournament it hosted at Reynolds Coliseum.
“This weekend, we will have three matches against teams look to be strong,” Bunn said. “It will be a good test for us.”
Under Bunn, NC State is a perfect 9-0 in tournament matches at Reynolds. Overall, since Bunn arrived for the 2010, he has guided the Pack to a 26-3 tournament record. That includes undefeated marks in six of nine events.
The Classic kicks off 13 consecutive home matches for the Wolfpack. Last year, Bunn’s team was 11-5 overall at home, including seven non-conference victories. The Pack’s next road match is slated for Oct. 5 at Miami.
Against this weekend’s opponents, the Wolfpack owns a 15-4 record against Virginia Commonwealth, a 1-1 mark against South Florida and a winless 0-4 tally against Kent State.
MVP CYR
For the second year in a row, senior setter Megan Cyr has taken home a most valuable player award in an early-season tournament.
Cyr was named MVP of the Comfort Inn & Suites West Ashley Invitational last weekend after she posted 121 assists, eight kills, 17 digs, 12 total blocks and three service aces in the Wolfpack’s 3-0 sweep of the tournament.
Last year, Cyr was one of three Wolfpack players to earn MVP honors. Cyr won the award at NC State’s Courtyard Midtown Invitational, while Brie Merriwether was MVP of the Courtyard Midtown Classic and Nikki Glass was MVP of the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire Classic in Wilmington, N.C.
UP NEXT
The Wolfpack will host its second consecutive tournament on Sept. 8-9 when Central Michigan, Campbell and Western Carolina come to Reynolds for the Courtyard Midtown Invitational. Following the two tournaments, the Pack will host seven consecutive home matches, including ACC contests against North Carolina, Wake Forest, Duke, Georgia Tech and Clemson.
600th ALL-TIME VICTORY
With three wins at the Comfort Inn & Suites West Ashley Invitational, NC State recorded the 600th victory in school history. Volleyball was introduced as a varsity sport in 1975 under head coach Kay Yow. This is now volleyball’s 38th season of competition, with an overall mark of 600-662.
MILESTONES
• After just two seasons with the Pack, senior Megan Cyr already ranks sixth all-time in the school record books with 2,547 assists. She needs 104 to break into the top 5, but is not yet halfway to the school record of 4,938 set by Nicole Peterson from 1994-97.
• Cyr is also chasing another school record, though one not as obvious as the career assist mark. With a career hitting average of .368, she owns the second highest career average in school history. Last season, Cyr posted the second highest single-season attack average in school history at .427.
