GREENSBORO, N.C. -NC State's volleyball team, under the guidance of third-year coach Bryan Bunn, was picked to finish eighth in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season, the league announced on Friday.
Last year, Bunn's team finished tied for seventh in the league, the Pack's best ACC finish since 1999. The Pack had its first winning season since 1996 and its first 20-win season since 1996. The team's eight ACC wins and four ACC road wins were both school records.
State will host the Wolfpack Challenge on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum. Admission is free for all spectators.
Defending ACC champion Florida State was picked as the favorite to win the league again, getting 118 out of a possible 121 points in a survey by the 12 ACC coaches.
Senior setter Megan Cyr of St. Andrews, Manitoba, Canada, was the Wolfpack's lone entry on the 18-player preseason All-ACC squad.
A total of 10 teams are represented on the 2012 Preseason All-ACC Team. Clemson and Florida State led all conference schools with three selections, followed by Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and Miami with two representatives.
Eleven of the 18 selections were voted to the 2011 All-ACC team, and seven were named Honorable Mention All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
The season gets under way Friday, August 24, with 11 of the conference teams in action. The Wolfpack will face Jacksonville at 4:30 p.m. next Friday in the College of Charleston's tournament in Charleston, S.C.
