RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State’s volleyball team will give a preview glimpse of the upcoming season on Saturday at Reynolds Coliseum, when it hosts the Wolfpack Challenge intra-squad match at 7 p.m.
The 18-player team will be divided into Red and White squads and will play a total of four sets, according to head coach Bryan Bunn. Players on each team will vary by set.
The team began preseason practice last Tuesday, in preparation for next weekend’s season-opening tournament in Charleston, S.C. The Wolfpack faces Jacksonville University next Friday at 4:30 p.m. on the College of Charleston campus.
“So far, our preparation for the coming season has been excellent,” Bunn said. “There have been no surprises so far. We have a deep team at all positions.”
The Wolfpack (20-13 overall, 8-12 ACC in 2011) returns four starters and 13 letterwinners from last season. It also has five incoming freshmen. Only two starting jobs have been won outright so far, Bunn said.
“We are still looking at our lineup options,” Bunn said. “We have had some really good competition since practice began last week.”
The volleyball team will also appear Saturday from 2-2:45 p.m. at Packapalooza, the day-long festival on Hillsborough Street that will kick off the University’s celebration of its 125th anniversary.
The players will be available for pictures and autographs in the Wolfpack Zone in front of the North Residence Hall, just across the street from the Memorial Belltower. The women’s basketball, women’s soccer, gymnastics and baseball teams, along with select football players will also be on hand for autographs throughout the day.
