Turner Continues to Impress as USA Falls 3-2

HAARLEM, The Netherlands - Puerto Rico handed USA its first loss of Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week, Tuesday, topping the collegiate national team 3-2 behind 6 1/3 innings from former Major Leaguer Juan Padilla.
NC State’s Trea Turner scored once, tying the game at 2-2 in the sixth on a sac fly from New Mexico’s D.J. Peterson. Turner reached on a single, his only hit in a 1-for-3 performance, moved to second on a fielding error, and took third on a groundout.
Turner continues to stand out as USA’s most potent offensive weapon. The rising sophomore leads the national team with a .361 average (13-for-36), .556 on-base percentage, .972 on-base plus slugging, 16 runs scored, and 15 walks.
USA tangles with Chinese Taipei at 2 p.m. local time (8 a.m. ET) on Wednesday, July 18. The collegiate national team plays again on Thursday, beginning at 1 p.m. ET against The Netherlands, its final tuneup before the semifinals.
