James Advances to Final 16 at British Amateur

CARNOUSTIE, Scotland - NC State’s Augusta James remains in contention at the British Ladies’ Amateur Championship held by the Ladies’ Golf Union at Carnoustie Links.
Both James and Marchand navigated through 36 holes of stroke play on Tuesday and Wednesday to qualify for the 64-player match play portion of the tournament. Marchand backed up an opening round 78 with an even-par 72 to finish as the 10th seed heading for match play. James carded rounds of 79 and 75 to settle in as the 33rd seed.
In the first round of match play Wednesday, James handled Germany’s Ann-Kathrin Lindner 3&1 over 17 holes to advance to the second round. Marchand dispatched France’s Emilie Alonso 2&1 over 17 to advance.
On Thursday, James bettered Scotland’s Sally Watson 2 Up after 18 holes to earn a spot in the final 16. Marchand fell 2 Down after 18 holes against Sweden’s Amanda Strang.
