COLUMBUS, OHIO - NC State women's golf fired a 19-over 307 in the first round of the NCAA Central Regional, good for seventh of 24 teams, Thursday on Ohio State's par 72, 6,264 yard Scarlet Course.
Brittany Marchand led the Wolfpack with her 3-over 75 to finish with a share of 19th on the individual leaderboard. Amanda Baker delivered a 4-over 76 to creep into a tie for 29th overall.
Augusta James and Vivian Tsui carded rounds of 6-over 78 to tie for 42nd. Ana Menendez ended up in a tie for 78th with her first round 81.
State sits nine strokes off the pace set by Southern Cal, but would advance to its first-ever NCAA Championship by holding onto its seventh place standing through Saturday. The Pack needs a finish in the top eight teams to advance, and holds a one shot lead over a trio of teams at 20-over.
Vanderbilt's Marina Alex took the 18-hole lead with her 2-under par 70, one of only three under par rounds surrendered by the Scarlet Course on Thursday.
NC State returns to the links for Friday's second round. The Pack will tee off of hole no. 10 from 12:20 p.m. to 1:04 p.m. on Friday. Live scoring for the NCAA Central Regional is available at Golfstat.com.
