COLUMBUS, OHIO - NC State women’s golf held on to its seventh place standing through the second round of the NCAA Central Regional with a 16-over par 304 at Ohio State’s par 72, 6,264 yard Scarlet Course Friday.
The Pack maintained its one-shot margin over the eighth place team, and increased its lead over ninth to three shots after a three-way tie for eighth was broken over day two. State must finish in the top eight to advance to its first-ever NCAA Championship.
Augusta James climbed 27 spots to 15th overall by carding a 1-over 73. If the freshman can improve her position by 10 spots, she’ll set the NC State record for lowest individual finish at a regional. Brittany Marchand also has a chance at that record after her second round 77, which dropped her from 19th to 21st.
Vivian Tsui navigated her way nine spots up the individual leaderboard to 33rd with her 3-over 75. Amanda Baker slid to 42nd and Ana Menendez rose to 73rd with a pair of 79s to round out the Wolfpack’s team scorecard.
Southern Cal’s Lisa McCloskey took over the individual lead with a 4-under 68, opening a two-shot lead over her nearest competition with a 3-under 141 total. Southern Cal also boasts the team lead with a 12-over 588 through 36 holes.
NC State will tee off in Saturday’s final round between 8 a.m. and 8:44 a.m. with players from Ohio State and Tennessee. Live scoring for the final round of the 2012 NCAA Central Regional will be available at Golfstat.com and a full recap and results will be posted to GoPack.com at the conclusion of play.
