GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State junior shortstop Chris Diaz has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week after keying the Wolfpack to a league series win over top-10 competition.
Diaz led the Wolfpack offense in a series win over No. 10 Georgia Tech, going 6-for-13 with six RBIs, three doubles, and three runs over the weekend. Diaz’s blistering four-RBI performance helped State storm past Tech in an 8-5 win on Saturday. Diaz drove in half of the Wolfpack’s runs and scored one himself on a 3-for-4 day with a double and a stolen base to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.
The Miami, Fla., native improved his hitting streak to 14 games on Sunday with another pair of RBIs on a 2-for-4 day with his third double of the weekend. During the week, Diaz went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the Pack’s decisive 11-0 victory over in-state rival Davidson.
The ACC Player of the Week honor marks the first of Diaz's career, and the first for an NC State athlete since Drew Poulk on May 17, 2010.
The Pack returns to action Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a road trip to Elon.
