James Hangs in Top-15 Through Second Round in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, LA. – No. 23 NC State slipped three spots into a tie for 10th despite Augusta James holding strong in the top-15 in Saturday’s second round at the LSU Golf Classic at the par-72, 6,305 yard University Club.
James followed her first round 73 with a 77 to drop into a tie for 14th at 6-over par. The 5-over 77 would mark the Wolfpack’s second best round of the day. After trailing by only three shots entering the second round, James faces an eight-shot deficit to leader Magdalene Sagstrom of LSU. Sagstrom has fired a pair of 71s to take the 36-hole lead at 2-under par.
Brittany Marchand carded the Pack’s best round of the afternoon, a 4-over 76 to improve six spots on the individual leaderboard. Marchand sits tied for 36th. Ana Menendez fell to 48th with an 81.
State carded a 30-over 318 to fall from seventh into a tie for 10th with UNC Wilmington. The Wolfpack trails No. 27 Purdue by three shots, and No. 32 TCU by six. No. 16 Tennessee and No. 8 LSU share the team lead at 11-over.
James, currently No. 71 in the nation as an individual according to Golfstat, has an opportunity to cash in some important victories over ranked opponents. She holds a four shot lead over the No. 13 and No. 23 golfers in the country, a two shot lead over No. 24 Casey Grice of UNC, and a one shot lead over No. 38 Tessa Teachman of LSU, heading into the final round.
