GREENSBORO, N.C. - Brittany Marchand captured No. 23 NC State's first-ever ACC Women's Golfer of the Month award, announced Thursday by the conference office, for her efforts during the month of February.
Marchand, a sophomore from Orangeville, Ontario, Canada became the Wolfpack’s all-time wins leader with her second career medalist honor, earned in a playoff over teammate Augusta James at the Sir Pizza Cards Challenge, played February 27-28 in Weston, Fla.
Marchand’s efforts, a 6-under 210, qualified as the third best score in program history and helped lead State to its second team title of the season, one shy of the school record set in 2002.
Her 3-under 69 in the final round set up the playoff with James, and Marchand prevailed, adding the Sir Pizza Cards Challenge title to her 2010 UNCG Starmount Fall Classic co-medalist honor.
In the Pack's first tournament of the spring, Marchand claimed a share of 30th, climbing 11 spots on the final day of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
Marchand becomes the first Wolfpacker to take home ACC Women's Golfer of the Month since the award began in October 2009. She shares February's award with Duke's Lindy Duncan after a split vote.
In the midst of one of the best seasons in program history, NC State returns to the links for the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La., March 9-11.
