RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State (5-2) returns home for a midweek intrastate battle with Campbell (5-2) Tuesday at Doak Field at Dail Park, beginning at 3 p.m.
Senior righthander Vance Williams takes the mound for the Pack against righthander Ryan Koopman (0-1), as NC State looks to keep its hot start to the season going.
Wolfpack pitchers were in peak form over the weekend as State went 2-1 at Baseball at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C., defeating George Mason on Friday and West Virginia Saturday before falling to Coastal Carolina Sunday. During the week, State scored a 10-0 win over UNC Wilmington thanks to a 10-run eighth and four perfect innings by Ethan Ogburn.
The Wolfpack pitching staff struck out a total of 43 batters over 26 innings of work during the weekend slate. Anthony Tzamtzis, Ryan Wilkins, and Chris Overman combined to strike out 10 in State's 8-5 win over George Mason on Friday, a game that saw the Pack claw back from a 4-0 deficit after a first inning grand slam for the Patriots. Freshman Trea Turner had four stolen bases in the game. Turner added a pair on Saturday and Sunday, bringing him to 11-for-11 on stolen base attempts this season.
Against West Virginia, freshman Logan Jernigan through five no-hit innings to record the win. Jernigan left the game with a 5-0 lead, but State added plenty of insurance with 11 runs in the eighth and ninth to win 16-0. On Sunday, freshman Carlos Rodon fanned 10 batters over four innings before giving way to Ogburn who added seven more strikeouts. A throwing error on a potentially inning-ending double play in the seventh proved to be the difference though, as the Wolfpack fell 3-2 to Coastal Carolina.
Tuesday's game features $1 hot dogs and popcorn. Radio coverage will be provided by 88.1 WKNC, fans can follow @NCStateBaseball for live updates, and live stats will be available on GoPack.com.
