RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State (6-5) softball defeated Kent State by a score of 8-0 in five innings today at Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium during the Wolfpack Challenge.

Emily Weiman went the distance for State, surrendering no runs off of three hits and striking out seven Kent State batters.

Sara Lippard and Scout Albertson each posted impressive days at the plate for the Wolfpack. Lippard went 3-for-3 with one RBI in the contest, and Albertson notched 3 RBI and knocked her first career triple.

Bethaney Wells smashed her first home run of the 2012 season in the fourth inning.

In the second inning, Kent State notched two base hits to open the frame. Weiman, though, was able to induce two ground balls and fan a batter, causing the Golden Flashes to leave the bases loaded to end the inning. After the first, the game remained scoreless.

The Wolfpack batted around in the fourth and posted eight runs off off five hits. Wells led off the frame by knocking her first home run of the 2012 season, a solo shot.

Leah Jones and Lippard followed with base hits and were moved into scoring position by Landon Warren's sacrifice bunt. The next batter, Liz Williamson, reached on an error which plated Kelsey Hoover who was pinch running for Jones.

A few batters later, Albertson notched a three-run double to give the Pack a 6-0 advantage. Lippard then notched her second base knock of the frame to plate another NC State run and increase the lead to 8-0.

State's next game in the Wolfpack Challenge versus Georgetown has been moved to 6:30 due to inclement weather in the Raleigh area.
