
Softball Falls to Tulsa at the Aggie Classic

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - NC State (3-4) fell to Tulsa (4-1) today at the Aggie Classic in College Station, Texas by a score of 4-0.
Emily Weiman got the start in the circle for the Pack. She surrendered one earned run off of seven hits in six full innings of work, while striking out nine Tulsa hitters. Morgan Peeler came in the game in relief of Weiman in the seventh inning. She surrendered no runs off of one hit while striking out two Tulsa batters.
Katie Mansilla and Leah Jones paced the Pack at the plate, both going 2-for-3 with two singles in the contest.
Weiman got off to a strong start in the ballgame, striking out the side in the top of the first inning.
Mansilla reached base in the bottom half of the first, but was thrown out attempting to steal second to end the frame. Heading into the second, the game remained scoreless.
The Wolfpack defense continuted to put together a strong performance, and the game was still scoreless heading into the bottom of the third inning.
The first two Tulsa hitters reached in the top of the fourth, but Weiman battled back, striking out the next three in order to maintain the scoreless game.
In the fifth inning, Tulsa's first two batters again reached base. Then, in a bizarre sequence of plays, the Golden Hurricane scored their first run of the game. Overall in the inning, Tulsa posted two runs off of two hits and one Wolfpack error to take a 2-0 lead.
The Golden Hurricane added to their lead in the sixth inning, capitalizing on two hits and one Wolfpack error to increase the lead to 3-0.
Mansilla notched her second hit of the game in the sixth, but the Wolfpack offense was unable to plate her, and the score remained 3-0 in Tulsa's favor after six innings of play.
In the top of the seventh, Tulsa's first hitter of the inning knocked a home run over the left field wall to give the Golden Hurricane a 4-0 lead and end Weiman's day in the circle.
Jones led off the bottom of seventh with a deep base hit, and the next batter, Landon Warren, lined out for the first out of the frame. Renada Davis then reached on a fielders choice that retired Jones for the second out. Sara Lippard stepped in the box next, pinch hitting for Kirsty Grant. She hit a hard ground ball, but was thrown out at first to end the game.
