Rodon, Turner Named Louisville Slugger First Team All-America

NC State’s Carlos Rodon and Trea Turner headlined the 2013 Louisville Slugger’s Preseason All-American first team, announced Friday by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Rodon and Turner represent the only ACC players listed on the first team, and two of the four youngest members of the first team, joining true sophomores Michael Conforto of Oregon State and Michael Lorenzen of Cal St. Fullerton.
The mentions mark the first time that the Wolfpack has ever boasted two first team All-Americans from a single publication. In 1997, Clay Eason and Tom Sergio were each named first team All-America performers by separate publications.
Rodon enters his sophomore season with an undefeated 9-0 record and a 1.57 career ERA. The left-hander won the ACC’s Pitcher and Freshman of the Year awards in 2012, and became the first Division I freshman to make the finals of the Golden Spikes Award.
Turner awaits the chance to shatter the Wolfpack record for stolen bases after leading the nation with 57 in 2012 (16 shy of the NC State career record). The Lake Worth, Fla. native added a .336 batting average and five home runs to his base-stealing prowess during his freshman campaign, enough to warrant a consensus freshman All-America mention.
NC State takes the diamond for the first time in 2013 on February 15 for a three-game series against Appalachian State at Doak Field at Dail Park. Season tickets are on sale, with more information available by following the links at the top of this page.
