Merriwether Earns Academic All-District Honors

RALEIGH, N.C. --NC State junior middle blocker Brie Merriwether of Orlando, Fla., is one of four ACC players named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District III volleyball teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognizing her as one of the nation’s top student-athletes for her combined performance athletically and in the classroom.
The Academic All-District teams include the student-athletes divided among eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada from NCAA Division I, II and III schools.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Merriwether has played in 87 of the Wolfpack's 98 set this season and is third on the team with 227 kills, second with 73 blocks and third with a .307 attack average.
The Wolfpack (19-7 overall, 9-6 ACC) is tied for fourth in the ACC, heading into Friday's 7 p.m. match at Clemson and Saturday's 7 p.m. match at Georgia Tech.
