NC State's Alex Martinez earned a spot on the All-ACC First Team, announced Thursday by the conference.
"I'm very pleased for Alex," said NC State head coach Kelly Findley. "He possesses a lot of ability, but he earned this honor through his hard work this summer. Every player has room for growth, and I know Alex wants to reach his full potential. He'll be a big part of our program again next year."
The junior transfer from High Point made an instant impact over his first year with NC State, helping the Pack climb as high as No. 14 in the national rankings during the squad's best start since 1982. Martinez spent the season ranked among the ACC's leaders in goals, assists, and points. He finished the season with 32 points on 11 goals and 10 assists.
The last time an NC State soccer player recorded double-digit goals and assists in a single season came with Henry Gutierrez's 10 goal, 13 assist effort in 1991.
Martinez represents the Wolfpack's first double-digit goal scorer since Ronnie Bouemboue's 14 goals in 2008, and notches the first double-digit assist total since Bouemboue's 10 in 2009. Martinez's 32 points equal a mark set by Bouemboue in 2008.
The Rock Hill, S.C. native becomes the first player in the Kelly Findley-era to land on the first team. The last Wolfpacker to make the first team was Alan Sanchez in 2009.
