In early December, construction started on NC State soccer's Wolfpack Training Complex (WTC). The practice facility for both the men's and women's soccer teams will feature a grass field, a turf field, lights, 50-foot netting behind each goal and a sound system. The complex is located just across the street from both the Dail Soccer Stadium and the team's locker rooms and sports medicine facility.
The natural grass field will be a replica of the Pack's gameday field, the Dail Soccer Field. It will be 120x75 yards, a USGA sandbased field with hybrid Bermuda grass, and a tile drainage system.
The synthetic surface will be 100x68 yards FIFA certified infill system that will be the first synthetic field on NC State's campus. A third area will be extra turf space which features penalty box dimensions which can be used for set pieces and shooting on goal.
There will also be a 25,000 sq ft warm up/training area off that field as you enter the complex for the teams.
"Every coach and player wants to be in a program where soccer matters," said men's head coach Kelly Findley. "The investment and commitment here at NC State has made this program a place where soccer not only matters but is a priority.
"With a $2.2 million investment into the stadium and practice facility which began construction December 1, we know State is set for championship caliber soccer."
"We are thankful to the administration for seeing the importance of having a top notch practice facility," said women's head coach Steve Springthorpe. "With the construction of our new training complex we will now have one of the best soccer practice facilities in the country.
"We will now have all our soccer specific facilities within walking distance from each other. Our players will have the ability to train and compete on the best soccer specific surfaces in the country."
The new Wolfpack Training Complex is only part of the new facilities the soccer programs have received recently.
The 2011 season saw major improvements to the Dail Soccer Field. Seat-back chairs and bleachers have significantly upgraded the seating comfort for NC State fans, which includes bleachers behind both goals.
A new brick look also encompasses a majority of the upgrades that have been made to the stadium, while a press box, new fan entrance and a brand-new stand alone building in the southeast corner of the stadium provides both the Pack and its competitors meeting and locker room space and showers.
In addition, both squads have had their locker rooms renovated in Weisiger Brown.
