MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - No. 18 NC State gymnastics swept the week two EAGL awards, with sophomore Stephanie Ouellette earning Gymnast of the Week honors, junior Rachel Fincham taking Specialist of the Week, and freshman Lane Jarred scoring Rookie of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.
The clean sweep marks the first time since March 4, 2008 that NC State has claimed all three honors in a given week.
Ouellette capped a career-best 39.100 all-around score with a 9.825 floor exercise worthy of a first place finish. The Columbia, Md. native also added a pair of podium finishes with a 9.775 for second on bars, and a career-best 9.75 for third on beam to help the Wolfpack overcome BYU.
Fincham notched her third-career 9.9 on bars to equal her career-best in the Wolfpack’s win. After battling an injury during the offseason, Fincham has returned to peak form, outscoring the entire competition by .125 in her second appearance of the season.
Jarred backed up an impressive 9.825 floor routine in her debut a week ago, with a pair of solid contributions this Saturday. Jarred took second place with a 9.775 in the first beam routine of her career, and set a new career-best finish in the process. Jarred narrowly missed out on picking up her first two podium finishes with her fourth-place showing on floor.
NC State returns to action Saturday, January 21 at Illinois-Chicago. Pack gymnastics returns home on February 11 for the Sweetheart Invitational beginning at 7 p.m.
