RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State will open Atlantic Coast Conference play Friday against the University of North Carolina.
The Wolfpack posted a 7-1 non-conference record on the season, its best start under third-year head coach Steve Springthorpe and the programs best since 2008. They currently own a three-game winning streak.
Senior Tanya Cain is ranked third in the ACC in total shots with 33, and fifth in shots per game, with an average of 4.12. Cain and teammate Alex Berger are tied at eighth in the league with four goals apiece. Berger, a redshirt senior, is tied for first in game-winning goals with three.
Senior goalkeeper Kim Kern is ranked second in the ACC in saves per game, with 35 to her name in the past eight games. She is tied for fifth in shutouts, with four so far this year.

The Tarheels begin league play after suffering a 4-3 overtime loss to Texas A&M. North Carolina is ranked No. 5 by Soccer America and No. 7 in the NSCAA coaches poll.
