RALEIGH, N.C. - The second annual Wolfpack Challenge was a success for second-year NC State volleyball coach Bryan Bunn and his squad today. The Pack was split into two teams, Red and White, with most players competing for both squads in predetermined rotations. Red reigned victorious, though, sweeping four sets from the White squad.
Both Red and White showed solid play, with all 11 newcomers and eight returners putting forth strong performances.
Freshman outside hitter Nicole Glass led all players with 14 kills, while senior Margaret Salata notched 12 of her own. Sophomores Brie Merriwether and Meredith Richardson also turned in impressive offensive performances, smashing 10 kills each. Junior Megan Cyr paced both squads by dishing out 45 assists for Red, and newcomer Katie Ganny distributed 22 for White.
Defensively, Kelly Wood gathered 23 digs and freshman Alston Kearns grabbed 19. Salata paced both squads with three solo blocks and seven assisted efforts.
With the Wolfpack Challenge under its belt, the Pack can now return to practice to hone its game before opening the regular season on Friday, Aug. 26 at the Appalachian State tournament against the Mountaineers.
