Friday begins a stretch of four-consecutive home matches to open up the 2011 campaign. The Pack will host Navy on Sunday at 1 p.m. Next weekend brings in Old Dominion on Friday night at 8 p.m., and Southeastern Conference foe LSU on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
The ODU and LSU games are part of doubleheaders with the NC State men's program.
This years squad features a strong core of six seniors that have all made significant contributions during their time in the red and white jersey.
• Alex Berger - 53 career starts
• Kristina Argiroff - Tied for team lead in 2010 in points and goals
• Tanya Cain - Scored 11 career goals
• Paige Dugal - Current team leader with 33 career points
• Jordan Edwards - Appeared in 35 games over the last two seasons
• Kim Kern - Team voted MVP in 2010; Started all 38 games in goal last two years
Argiroff and Cain are the top returning scorers for the Pack. The two combined for 26 points in 2010. Sophomore Jennie Krauser will not play this season after a knee injury in the spring.
Red-shirt sophomore Meagan Proper, sophomores Hannah Eshraghi and Karri Owens, and freshmen Jessica Baity, Stephanie Bronson, and Cheyenne Spade will also be on the attack this season, providing a balanced Wolfpack attack.
Kern has been a steady force in goal during her entire career in Raleigh. Her 1.38 goals-against-average ranks fourth in school history.
She is backed up by red-shirt freshman Victoria Hopkins.
The back line also looks to be strong with returning starters Randi Soldat, Berger and Dugal. Add to the mix the veteran presence of Edwards, and the talented freshmen duo of Shelli Spamer and Kasey Koballa and the defense looks to once again be an anchor for Springthorpe this fall.
The midfield will see the return of sophomores Kaley Shlaes, Ariela Schreibeis and Lauren Woodson. Red-shirt freshman Morgan Phipps is back from injury, while newcomers Julia Sandridge and Reilly Brown are expected to play a significant role in the middle of the field.
Currently rehabbing from injury, sophomore defender Claudel Pilon and freshman forward Rachel Harris will look to contribute when healthy. Pilon started all 19 games in the back last season.
