The NC State men's golf team begins its quest for a berth in the NCAA Championship with the three-day Florida Regional on Thursday-Saturday, May 19-21 at Golden Ocala Golf Club in Ocala, Fla.
Earlier today, NC State was tabbed No. 24 in the final Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Coaches' Poll of the season. The Wolfpack has found itself among the top 25 the entire 2010-11 campaign.
Tomorrow's first round will get underway at 8 a.m., with fifth-seed NC State going off 10th tee between 8:20-9 a.m. The Pack will play alongside fourth-seed Oregon and sixth-seed UCF.
The lineup will look a little different for the Pack as Graham Baillargeon replaces Mark McMillen in the starting five. The other competitors include Albin Choi, Chad Day, Brandon Detweiler and Mitchell Sutton.
Choi was unanimously named ACC Freshman of the Year last week by the ACC coaches. He and Sutton were also selected to the 12-man All-ACC squad, each for the first time.
The 14-team regional is most certainly a competitive one. The top-five seeds are all ranked in the top 25, including top seeds Florida and defending national-champion Augusta State, who come in fifth and seventh, respectively. Third-seed Arkansas is No. 14 nationally.
The low five teams and low individual not on those five teams will advance to the NCAA Championship that runs May 31-June 5 at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.
