RALEIGH, N.C. -- American Idol star Scotty McCreery came and threw out the scheduled ceremonial first pitch Saturday, but the weather did not permit NC State and Florida State to play their scheduled Atlantic Coast Conference baseball game, which was cancelled.
Heavy rains hit the Triangle area at about 4 p.m., and did not abate. McCreery threw out the scheduled first pitch at 6:40 in front of several hundred devoted and hardy fans who endured the weather to see the American Idol finalist. Unfortunately, the field was too saturated by the rain and the game was postponed.
The Wolfpack and Seminoles will play a doubleheader Sunday. The first game will begin at noon. The second game will begin 40 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
